All The Eggs In One Basket is another preliminary to the trial of Epsilon. Here, another attempt has been made to prevent the trial, by using a time scoop to bring all the witnesses, including Chrístõ and his father, Julia, and everyone who had been with him in past adventures, onto a Gallifreyan prison ship and then send it hurtling towards a sun.

And who was responsible? The Castellan!

Traitors in the High Council of Gallifrey are a recurring theme in Doctor Who, it has to be said. Chancellor Goth, Counsellor Heddin, Castellan Kelner, President Borusa, to name but a few. In Theta Sigma were have aleady had Chancellor Arpexia letting the side down, and now the Castellan! Time Lord society has some issues!

The Time Scoop and the portals, of course, come from classic Doctor Who. The Time Scoops were used in The Five Doctors, to do something very similar – capturing The Doctor and his companions from different time zones. The portals, meanwhile, were used all the way back in 1969 to send The Doctor’s companions, Jamie and Zoë back to their own times when the Time Lords punished him for his disobedience. So it’s all in keeping with the mythology of Gallifrey.
