Time Lords, Time Ladies and Time Agents brought together some characters from Chrístõ’s future.

The Rani was the baddie in only two actual Doctor Who stories, and the first of them, Mark of The Rani, was never all that memorable. But she captured the imagination of Doctor Who fans, and one thing they tend to remember, is that she is exactly the same age as The Doctor, born on the same day. Here, I made her a cousin of his, but in the family tree I have built up in Theta Sigma and in the Marion and Christoph series, it is not entirely clear WHERE she comes into the family tree as yet. Possibly she might be revealed as the daughter of Chrístõ’s father’s older sister, who in the Marion and Kristoph stories is something of a snob.

Romana, in the TV series is much younger than The Doctor. Here she is the same age as him, more or less. In fact, THIS is not the SAME Romana. This story does not reveal, as it couldn’t, of course, that in fact the Romana who The Doctor catches up with in later years is, in fact, THIS Romana’s daughter, born much later in her life. The character as portrayed here, however, is a lot like the Lalla Ward version of the TV character, very demure and innocent looking.

That fact won't in fact become apparent until much later in the series.

The Time AGENT, meanwhile, is a young man called Jack Harkness who thinks Chrístõ is cute. We all know where THAT will end up, of course.

This IS Chrístõ’s first time actually killing a man face to face in combat. Of course, he blew up the Traactine ship, but that was different. Firstly, he was not directly confronting the creatures, and secondly, the difference between ‘creatures’ and ‘men’ is a distinction even for Chrístõ. Later, he would become the man who baulked at killing the embryo Daleks because the idea of genocide appalled him, and he was always saddened by the inability of Human beings to come to terms with the Silurians and Sea Devils and share the planet they all have a right to. But blowing up ships full of Cybermen or other threats to the universe is something he WOULD do from time to time, and sometimes he would be called upon to kill in more conventional ways. NEVER easily, never without a certain amount of guilt. The fact that his ‘first time’ was so hard for him is significant. As is the fact that, in this mission, Jack was the experienced one. Later, those roles were going to be reversed. The affection Jack has for young Chrístõ is another matter!

And in the end it is revealed – Epsilon is the one who hired the mercenary gun-running freighter. He is  going to be a thorn in Chrístõ’s side for a while yet. For a VERY long while, since he, of course, if the third Time Lord of this story who will turn up again in the TV series – as The Master.
