A pure ‘interlude’ to allow the main characters a breathing space. I wanted to bring in the idea of the TARDIS being able to ‘create’ rooms at will. This was touched on when Jack noted that the kitchen was a duplicate of Rose’s kitchen at home and she told her mum that her bedroom in the TARDIS was also a duplicate. The TARDIS responds to people’s needs. And in this episode it proves how good it really is by creating the dance hall. The Doctor proves that it is HIS TARDIS after all by refining the idea.

The songs – Wind Beneath My Wings is perfect for Rose and The Doctor. “Did you ever know you are my hero….. Time Warp! An inevitable joke song. Like a Rolling Stone was a song I had never heard until I started researching for one of the Theta Sigma stories and discovered the lyrics and a thoroughly electrifying live version by Bob Dylan and The Band. It becomes a motif of the second Theta Sigma story and I decided to pre-empt that by putting it in here. Knocking on Heaven’s Door, another Dylan song, though one somebody of Rose’s age is more likely to know, was inevitable to follow that one.

But of course, trouble is never far away for The Doctor….
