Time Portals were seen in the Doctor Who episode, The War Games. They were used to send Zoe and Jamie back to their own time. Since then they have not been used at all. Most of The Time Lords seen anywhere but Gallifrey always use TARDISes or time rings. The only significant exception was the strange, bowler hated man who appeared to the Third Doctor in the story Terror of the Autons. He appears to be able to travel without a TARDIS.

The idea of a portal like the ones in War Games, with a static position at both ends occurred to me as a way for Marion to travel to Earth without needing Kristoph to accompany her. It became even more necessary having introduced the idea of Lily and Li as lovers. I decided to add in Hillary’s location as well in order to introduce stories set on Haollstrom in the future.

There is actually a Chinese restaurant in Upper Duke Street. Its name is Yuet Ben which means Welcome, Honoured Guest, a variation on Welcome Friend. It has been there since 1968 according to the website. I recommend a visit if you happen to be in Liverpool’s Chinatown, but it possibly isn’t a good idea to try to explain the plot of Marion and Kristoph to them or their role in it.

There isn’t a Well Woman Clinic in Lord Street, but the upper floors of businesses in streets like that are typically where such places are found. Marion’s concern is a natural one for any woman, whether married to a Time Lord or not. Obviously, we are setting up for another ongoing plot thread about pregnancy. And again, of course, tragedy is the end result.
